Military Children
& Suicide Prevention
Thursday, April 9th @ 10am
Join us as we celebrate the Month of the Military Child by discussing how we can support military children in their mental health. It is estimated that miliary children experience suicidal ideation at a rate 10% higher than their civilian counterparts. This training explores the challenges military children face and how those challenges can increase their potential for suicidal thoughts. We will also discuss the resiliency that military families have that can be considered a protective factor that can help ward against suicidal thoughts and behaviors. A heavy emphasis will be placed on the main stressors that most military children/families experience. And we will draw connections to suicide prevention among military children and suicide prevention among members of our armed forces and Veterans. Some military parents may find the facts and statistics regarding suicide and military children to be disturbing. Participant discretion is advised.

Reduction of Access
to Lethal Means (RALM)
Tuesday, April 21st @ 10am
Join us as we celebrate the Month of the Military Child by discussing how we can support military children and their families in their mental health. Reducing access to lethal means doesn't just protect our Veterans, but can go a long way in protecting their children too. Keeping a loaded, unlocked firearm in the home increases risk for dying by suicide 4 to 6 times for everyone living in the home. This training will discuss how we can create a safe space for individuals struggling with their mental health specifically by reducing access to lethal means. Included in this training is the specific role each person should play (professional vs supporting loved ones) when using a Safety Plan.
